Daisy and George's Stunning Summer Wedding
We were lucky enough to host the very lovely Daisy & George’s wedding in June last year. They created a beautiful day. They decided to have George’s auntie as their celebrant which added such a personal touch to their ceremony. In terms of their decor, sustainability was top of their list growing pot plants for their wedding favours, sourcing local blooms, and collecting shells for their place settings to tie in with their beach-inspired theme. They added so many little touches that made their day special to them.
We sat down with them to ask them about their experience of planning their wedding, the day itself, and their advice for future couples.
Choosing your wedding venue
What were you looking for in a venue
Firstly, we wanted to get married in Cornwall. We studied at Exeter University and got engaged in Cornwall, on Chapel Porth beach so having our wedding there felt like the right choice.
We knew we wanted a small wedding (no more than 60 people). We really hoped our ceremony would be outdoors and therefore the scenery was really important to us. We wanted nice grounds and lovely open space - Camel Studio provided all that for us. It has the most amazing outside space.
In terms of the indoor space, we wanted it to feel informal and really cosy. When we came to see the venue in real life it felt so much better than we had imagined.
What were your favourite elements about the venue
The outdoor space is amazing, it’s magic. The views are so nice. The house is amazing, we loved staying and getting ready there - I wish we could live there! It’s so perfectly chilled and full of everything you need. It’s spacious but also a haven with a wood burner and a large sitting room.
Helen and Dave were amazing, the pizza by Dave was UNREAL, and it was the highlight of some of our friends' day. It has set the bar so high for other pizza places. It’s such a smart touch from Helen and Dave to do the welcome meal the night before - it helped us have some downtime with our bridesmaids and groomsmen and was the perfect chance to settle in.
The studio itself is fantastic and you can easily put your own twist on it. Helen gives you an open canvas and is so helpful in giving you advice about what will look the best within the space and being so encouraging and honest which is really helpful when we weren’t sure about things.
All the extra little offerings were perfect, the pizza van, the Sperry tent and the arch, the homely touches - it’s all fantastic. Also, the recommended supplier list was spot on, we just picked everything from there.
When you were thinking about your budget, what were the most important elements for you?
Food, we knew we wanted good caterers. Lots of people had to travel really far and we are really into our food. Our caterer was Avo Catering and their food was amazing.
Personalising your wedding day
How did you personalise your special day?
The main one was we chose to have my [George’s] auntie as our celebrant, we wanted our close friends and family there so it worked perfectly. Caroline, my auntie, researched what was needed and she did it for us as a one off. It was so special to have Caroline there as our celebrant and made the ceremony so personal to us.
Helen and Pheobe were really helpful in telling us what needed to happen and guiding us. We also added little touches, for examples we brought pots with flowers in for decoration at the end of the aisle that could then be moved to other areas of the venue. Family members helped with the flower arrangements for the tables. For our wedding favours we propagated our own plants (we have ALOT of plants) and handmade pots for everyone to take home. It looked great on the day.
Daisy’s friend from school Annie sang our first dance, George’s little sister (Molly) made the wedding cake, we made our own greenery for the arch - we foraged the local area to make a foliage arch, which really helped us feel involved during the set up the day before our wedding. We had lawn games to make the most of the space which were really good fun. We also had personalised cocktails. Helen suggested we could have a wedding favour as our cocktails so we had a Mr and Mrs cocktail which gave us something to drink during golden hour while the studio was being turned around ready for the evening entertainment.
Styling your Wedding Day
What was your inspiration for the design of your day
Definitely a coastal, laid-back style. I wanted it to feel informal. Name places were all little shells, blue theme was the main thing for us with touches of green. Nice gold tones going through the theme, blue table runners gave a nice little touch. We chose all of the styling from lots of Pinterest searching. Daisy was the creative director or the decor. The general style of the barn worked perfectly with our theme - what a win, it was perfect!
Top tips for couples planning a wedding
Leave enough time, we booked most things around a year and a half in advance. Even for the little things that might not matter yet and you think you still have ages.
Have fun when you’re planning. It can actually be quite stressful and you can forget it’s supposed to be fun. That’s why we came up with the idea of the plant pots because it gave us something fun to do together.
Budget, expect the fact it might slide a little bit. You can also do lots of bits yourself and it can still look beautiful. Make the most of the experts, we leaned on Helen a lot especially for her recommendations, use their advice as they have the most experience!
